Popcorn Disaster! :O

Mr. Bishop is making popcorn and sits down to eat it. He then realizes the popper never stopped popping! He tries his best to gather the popcorn, and decides he needs help from his fellow chess pieces. He calls them on the phone. When they arrive they can't get in the door because there is popcorn blocking it! So they file in through the window. Everyone begins gathering up popcorn until a little pawn finds the plug and unplugs the popper. Hooray!

Yearbook Summative

Reflection:

1. What do you like most about your designs?

The thing I like most about my yearbook design is that each page is well connected with the others for different reasons: they each have the same dull base colours, a star motif, the same background texture, and a black and white subject. I also like that each page has a variety of different sized objects including the elephant, the fire breather, and the acrobat. I like that the cover page is the entrance to the circus. Another thing I like is the font I found to go with the circus.

2. What do you think could be improved about your designs?

I think I could have added more images related to the circus. Although I like the simplicity of the pages, I could have made the designs a little more complicated, the cover page especially. I think there should have been punches of colour somehow to the sports page to tie it in better with the other pages. Also, I would have liked to include names of the students who did the art, and the students on the soccer team, had that info been available.
3. What do you think makes your designs unique and competitive to be selected for the real yearbook design? 
The circus is a whimsical, inviting, and enjoyable place that I think Sacred Heart would enjoy as the theme of the 2011/2012 yearbook. The circus is not exclusive to any group, it actually celebrates talents of all kinds, which is what we have at the Heart. The circus theme would give a kind of timeless effect to the yearbook.

Yearbook Brainstorming

For a yearbook theme I'm going to use the circus. I will use one or two awesome circus fonts that I've already found. For backgrounds and the cover I might use circus patterns like the striped tents, rhombuses, and stars. I'll use images related to the circus like elephants, acrobats, clowns, and tents. I want to make all the pages and images the same old fashioned, poster-like texture. Maybe I will find a good filter on photoshop to achieve this look. Also, I will use limited colours including blue, white, and red (typical circus colours).

1. What do you see in this piece of art (describe it)?

I see protesters on the street voicing their discontent at passing cars. The image is grainy, and black and white with punches of color, like Barbara Kruger's work.

2. What kind of message did you try to give in this piece of art?

The message I'm trying to get accross with this piece is that the human race is really never in 'harmony.' There's always something we're disagreeing on, or discriminating against. We have yet to come accross a happy medium. There are always protests, and wars, and conflict.

3. Do you like or dislike this piece of art?  Why?

I like this piece of art because of the satire it presents. When looking at the piece, a viewer would think about what the phrase is saying and how it applies to the world. I like that it begins with 'she would...' because it creates a kind of mystery. Who is this 'she'?

Moonlander Game Revision Reflection

1. What I like best?
I like the ice palace that I put in the background, the tunnels in the snow, and the skating penguins in the last scene, and the colour scheme. I like that the play button has a hat! I also like that the penguins look very much like penguins because I traced them in photoshop.
2. What could be improved?
I think the background maybe could be different for each scene. It could also maybe be a little bit more challenging.
3. How is this game an improvement on the original?
The theme is more creative. Also, I think more appealing to a different kind of gamer. Also the graphics are more detailed.

Barbara Kruger Assignment

1. What do you see in this piece of art (describe it)?
In this piece I see a historic statue looking over a man texting someone, or maybe he's checking his email on his blackberry. It seems like the man is ignoring the statue or oblivious of it's presence. His mind is completely absorbed in what he is doing.
2. What kind of message is the artist giving in this piece of art?
I think the message mocks the change society has gone through with quickly developing technology, and the change in society's priorities. Technology seems to have completely taken over!
3. Do you like or dislike Kruger's work? Why?
I really like the satire Kruger creates in her work. I find her mocking of society humorous, especially with this piece.

Arcade Game Brainstorming

1. For my Moonlander redesign assignment I could change the spaceship into a penguin!, and then when the person playing fails to land on the landing pad, the penguin could crash into a cloud of snow. The background can be a snowy iceland.

2. I could do a fruit bowl with an apple trying to land in the bowls of fruit on the table. On the tables I could put rotting fruit, as if those fruits tried landing in the bowl but missed and turned to mush. Thats what could happen to the apple if it misses too! It could turn to mush also.

Reflection:

1. What I like most?

I like that I was able to create three different scenes with the same words and photos, I also like the practice I got with filters (like lens flare, solarize, and extrude), brushes, and especially using displacement maps (which is used in the second picture where I made a displacement map out of the words and displaced the pictures onto it).

2. What can be improved?

I could have improved the assignment by making each picture more different than the rest (i.e. by placing the subject in different parts of the scene).

3. Which specific picture was most successful?

I find that the third picture is the most successful. I like the poses the subjects are in and the 'solarize' filter I used to create a blue and yellow effect. I also really like that the words are not the main focus of the scene because they blend into the scene. Lastly, I like the swirling brushes I used. They create a mystical effect.
